|UM-Presque Isle||Fisher College|
BOSTON, MA – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men’s Basketball team (4-5) would close out their first semester slate of games with an 80-72 victory over the Fisher Falcons (5-10) on the road on Sunday afternoon. Kevin Collins (SR, Fort Washington, MD) would score his 1,000th career point early in the game to help lead the Owls to victory.
Coming into the game needing just four points to reach the 1,000 point milestone, Collins would go to the free throw line on the first possession of the game for UMPI and hit one of two tries. With 14:36 remaining in the first half, Anthony Chacho (SR, Watertown, CT) would hit Collins, who would sink a three-point attempt to join the 1,000 point scorers club at UMPI.
The shot would tie the score at ten, and spark an 11-2 run that would put the Owls back on top in the matchup. Fisher would answer back and reclaim the lead with just over five minutes remaining in the half, but UMPI would respond once again. Collins and Ronkevis Clardy (JR, Wilmington, DE) would hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions, and the Owls would hold a 27-24 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
UMPI would get hot in the second half, hitting 61.9% of their shots from the field, including six of 13 from behind the three-point arc. Their lead would swell to 18 with just under four minutes to play. The Falcons would go on a small run to cut into that lead, but it would not be enough, as the Owls would remain in control and end up with the eight-point victory on the road.
Collins would finish off his big night with 28 points, including going six of 11 from behind the arc. Clardy would score 13 and have three assists and two steals, while Chacho would add a double-double, with 11 points and ten assists.
Jamontay Thompson (SR, Apopka, FL) would turn in a big effort off the bench for the Falcons, scoring 24 points and grabbing six rebounds.
The Owls take a holiday break before returning to action on December 29th. The will face the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT at 1 pm. They will then face off with Connecticut College the following day. That game is also scheduled for a 1 pm tip.
