Uniontown, Pennsylvania—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s basketball team rebounded on Thursday morning and won a consolation game against #6 seed, The Apprentice School by a score of 78-71 at the 2018 USCAA National Championships.
In Thursday’s consolation matchup, UMFK dug themselves a hole early as they trailed 10-2, but answered with a 10-2 run of their own to tie the game at 12 with 3:30 to go in the first quarter. Apprentice would end the quarter 12-3 to open up a nine point lead heading into the second quarter. The Bengals would continue to chip away and tie the score at halftime at 35 apiece.
UMFK ratcheted up their defense in the second half and forced the Builders into 25% shooting. Meanwhile the Bengals shot 46% and made 16-22 from the foul line to preserve the win.
Savanna Jankowski was the star again with 30 on 8-10 shooting and was 14-15 from the free throw line. She also had a team high, nine rebounds. Bianca Gutierrez and Tate Dolley had 12 points each.
