BANGOR, Maine- The #1 Husson University Softball Team (17-13) lost to the #4 Thomas College Terriers (20-15) by the final score of 2-0 in Game 1 of the NAC Conference Tournament at O’Keefe Field on the campus of Husson University on Friday morning.
How it Happened:
Thomas had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the third but Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) recorded a struck out then forced a ground out to first base and end the Terriers threat.
In the top of the fifth inning, Lexi Colpack with an RBI-single in shallow right field as Sam Coughlin comes home to score from second base. Anna Piirainen followed that up with an RBI-double down the left field line to score Colpack and give Thomas a 2-0 lead.
The two runs were all Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) needed as she held the Eagles offense to four hits on the morning.
Bri Brochu (Pittston, Maine) with three hits.
Chloe Gorey (Scarborough, Maine) with a hit.
Jones (12-6) pitched seven innings, gave up two runs on six hits, struck out four, and walked one.
Colpack with two hits, run scored, and an RBI.
Piirainen with a hit and an RBI.
Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) with two hits.
Coulter (11-3) pitched seven innings, allowed four hits, and struck out three.
Thomas will play in Game 4 vs. the winner of the Castleton and New England College at 4 p.m. Husson will play the loser of Castleton vs. New England College in Game 3 at 2 p.m.
