CLERMONT, Fla. – The Thomas College softball team split a doubleheader on day one of their spring trip on Monday morning. The Terriers defeated Oberlin College in game one, 10-3, and fell to Carleton, 9-3, in game two.
Game 1: Thomas 10, Oberlin 3
Oberlin got on the board in the opening inning as they scored a pair on an RBI triple from Dana Goldstein and an RBI single from Emily Tucci. The Terriers answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) brought in Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine). MacKenzie Oberholzer tied the game up at 2-2 as she scored LeBourveau on a sacrifice fly.
The Terriers stole the lead in the bottom of the third as Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) helped her cause on the mound by scoring on a wild pitch. The Yeowomen got the run back in the fifth on a Terrier miscue, plating Sandra Kibble.
Thomas pulled away in the fifth and six as they combined for seven runs. After scoring on an error, Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine) took advantage of the extended inning as she knocked a two-RBI double to right center in the fifth. The Terriers added four more runs in the sixth on an RBI double from Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.), an RBI single from LeBourveau, and a two-RBI single from Oberholzer.
Coulter earned the victory on the mound for Thomas, throwing 5.1 innings while giving up four hits and three runs (two earned). LeBourveau and Camille Coyne (Valley Falls, N.Y.) combined for 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Kibble shouldered the loss for Oberlin in 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and three runs. Hannah Rasmussen threw three in relief, giving up seven runs (four earned).
