CLERMONT, Florida – The Thomas College softball team came up short in two games on Monday as they lost to Allegheny, 7-6, in extra innings and 4-1 to D’Youville.
The Terriers opened the scoring in the top of the third as Katie Taylor’s (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) ground out scored Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine / Mt. Blue) from third to take an early 1-0 lead.
After a 1-2-3 inning from pitcher Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt. / Mount Mansfield Union) in the bottom frame, the Terriers offense exploded for a five-run inning. LeBourveau helped her own cause as she doubled to center to score Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine / Madison). Cassie Contigiani (Belmont, N.H. / Belmont) followed up with a walk while Guppy reached on a bunt to load the bases. Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H. / Franklin) drew another walk to score LeBourveau. Back-to-back singles from Taylor and Korrie Laren (Blackstone, Mass. / Blackstone-Millville) added three runs for a 6-0 advantage.
The Gators began their rally in the bottom of the fourth as a double from Abrianna Sadler scored Arissa Spitalny and Taylor Massart cut away at the lead.
Allegheny continued their comeback in the next inning as they notched four runs on four hits to tie the game up at 6-6. Jessica Valerino, Megan Hazlett, and Sadler each added a single to score runners.
In extras, the Terriers failed to capitalize as they left two runners on. Sarah Rogan was the hero for the Gators as her sacrifice fly gave her team the 7-6 victory.
