KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Saint Joseph’s College (2-6) split a pair of games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday. The Monks suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Franklin College (5-1) in the early game and rallied to defeat Meredith College (9-9), 4-3, in the afternoon contest.
Saint Joseph’s struck first as senior Carla Tripp (Lovell, Maine) led off with a walk and later scored on a Mariah Harrison (Buxton, Maine) single up the middle.
The narrow advantage lasted until the bottom of the third, when Franklin tied the contest with a run off two hits. The Grizzlies proceeded to put the game out of reach with four runs off four knocks and an SJC miscue in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman Kate Whitney (Jonesboro, Maine) falls to 0-2 on the season after allowing five runs (one earned) off seven hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. First-year Katelyn Olsen (Hartford, Maine) gave up one run off three hits with a strikeout in 1.1 frames and freshman Caitlyn King (Old Town, Maine) surrendered a pair of hits in one inning of relief.
Franklin starter Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind.) improved to 3-0 on the year after allowing one run off five hits with six K’s in six innings. Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind.) yielded one hit with a pair of K’s in an inning of relief.
Tripp went 2-2 with a run and a double.
Senior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind.) was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
Sophomore Shelby Mager (Fishers, Ind.) went 2-3 with a run and a stolen base.
Sophomore Monica Collins (Whiteland, Ind.) and senior Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind.) both went 2-2 with a runs scored and batted in.
