BEVERLY, Mass. – #20/21 Saint Joseph’s College (18-2, 4-0 GNAC) used timely hitting and excellent pitching to defeat Endicott College (11-11, 4-4 CCC), 3-1, in a non-conference baseball contest on Tuesday afternoon.

Endicott struck first, as junior left fielder Nick Berno (St. Albans, Vt.) led off the bottom of the first with a single to right and scored all the way from first when the following batter, sophomore first baseman Craig Seidl (Dracut, Mass.), doubled. Saint Joseph’s was held off the board until senior designated hitter Jameson Collins (Sandown, N.H.) led off the top of the fourth with an opposite field home run.

The Monks broke the 1-1 tie with two runs off two hits in the seventh, when senior second baseman Nick Petchell (Milton, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a pinch-hit double off the bat of senior Dan Donovan (Lynn, Mass.). Senior Scott Betts (Peabody, Mass.), who entered as a pinch-runner for Donovan, moved to third on a Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) single and crossed the plate on a Taylor Black (Cardiff by the Sea, Calif.) infield groundout.

Junior starter Aaron Hall (Haverhill, Mass.) allowed one run off five hits with one strikeout over three innings.

Junior Philip LeVangie (Hanover, Mass.) improved to 2-0 on the year after tossing three two-hit innings with three punch-outs.

Junior Travis Godbout (Portland, Maine) worked 2/3 scoreless innings.

Junior reliever Josh Partridge (Deerfield, N.H.) notched his third save of the season after working 2.1 scoreless innings while fanning three with a hit and a walk allowed.

Sophomore starter Zachary Sultar (South Windsor, Conn.) allowed a run – the Collins homer – off four hits and a walk with three K’s in four innings.

Sophomore Will Bryant (Cumberland, Maine) allowed three hits and a walk with a strikeout in 1.2 innings.

Graduate Corbin Hyde (Lewiston, Maine) took the loss and falls to 2-1 after allowing a run in 2/3 inning.

Junior Victor Molle (Peabody, Mass.), sophomore Kyle Wollman (East Berlin, Conn.), and freshman Alexander Mandrus (Acton, Mass.) combined to work 2.2 innings of four-hit, one-run ball in relief.

Senior first baseman Brett Barbati (Melrose, Mass.) went 3-4.

Collins was 2-4 with a solo home run, his third dinger of the season.

Donovan notched the game-winning, pinch-hit RBI double.

Seidl went 3-4 with a double and an RBI.

Berno was 2-3 with a run scored and a walk.
