CASTLETON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women’s lacrosse fell to Castleton University 20-1 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Spartan Stadium.
With the loss the Mariners fall to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in the NAC, while the Spartans improve to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, April 4 when they host Husson University at 4:00 pm for a NAC matchup on Ritchie Field.
Madison Barry (Stoneham, Maine) tallied a goal to lead the Mariners, while also scooping up two ground balls, causing a pair of turnovers and recording a draw control. Catherine Mahoney (Plymouth, Mass.) scooped up three ground balls and Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) added two draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Emily Cross had four goals and four assists to lead the Spartans, while Morgan Derosia added a hat-trick. Katie Feeney had seven caused turnovers and five ground balls to lead Castleton defensively, and Nadine Downing tallied a game-high eight draw controls.
Maine Maritime’s Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) tallied 11 saves in net in the loss while also scooping up three ground balls and causing two turnovers. Castleton’s Samantha Hebb picked up the victory in net for the Spartans.
