JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women’s basketball picked up a dominating 80-44 victory over NVU-Johnson on Friday night in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams, inside of Carter Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners held the Badgers to nine points in the first quarter, and took a 41-19 lead into halftime on the way to the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with 18 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) added 15 points, a rebound and an assist and Deirdre Sanborn (Standish, Maine) contributed 12 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Sydney Underhill-Tilton (Richmond, Maine) led all players with nine rebounds and Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) dished out a game-high four rebounds.
Kaitlyn Brouard led Johnson with eight points, two assists and a block.
Maine Maritime shot 34.3 percent from the floor, while the Badgers shot 26.9 percent from the floor. The Mariners held a commanding 61-32 edge in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while the Badgers drop to 1-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, December 1, at NVU-Lyndon at 3:00 pm.
