BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University Eagles (9-5, 5-0 NAC) drive past the Maine Maritime Mariners (6-5, 3-2 NAC) in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match-up with a 79-69 win on Friday evening in Newman Gym.

1st Half:

The Eagles maintained the lead in the opening five minutes, until the Mariners grabbed the edge by a point, 9-8, off a Riley MacLeod jumper and continued to separate themselves. By the ninth minute, Nicholas DePatsy had put away ten points for the Mariners to extend their lead to seven, 21-14.

Without wasting anytime, the Eagles jumped into second gear and a Trey Siebert layup sparked a 13-0 run over the next four minutes as Husson jumped ahead of Maine Maritime 27-21 with seven minutes left in the half. Responding quickly with a run of their own, the Mariners recorded seven unanswered points to reclaim a one-point advantage, which lasted all but ten seconds before Justin Thompson hit a jumper to bring the score to 29-28 with 4:49 on the clock. Husson cruised through the final five minutes without giving up a single point as they leapt out ahead, 46-28. With ten steals in the opening 20 minutes, the Eagles took full advantage off the turnover netting 19 points.

2nd Half:

Triggering a comeback two minutes into the second half, the Mariners broke out on a 14-4 rally thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers by DePatsy and Riley Jorgenson to bring the score gap back to single digits, 50-42.

Husson maintained a steady separation of a couple buckets before pushing away by 13 points from the charity stripe after Cole Thomas drained 4-4 with less than 90 seconds remaining in regulation, helping the Eagles close out with a 79-69 victory.

Shooting 6-6 from the free throw line, Thomas led Husson on the scoreboard with 14 points.

Thompson chipped in 13 points, five boards, six assists and three steals.

Corey Kaiser helped out with a career-high 12 points and two steals.

The Eagles recorded 33 points off the bench for the win.

Adam Richardson led all-scorers with 19 points, six boards and five assists.

Jorgenson recorded the lone double-double of the night between a combined 15 points and 11 rebounds.

DePatsy drained four 3-pointers to add on to a total of 16 points and three assists.

The Eagles get a week off before hosting SUNY Canton for a pair of conference matches next Friday and Saturday, January 18-19th. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
