SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Springfield College amassed 352 rushing yards and limited Maine Maritime Academy to 48 total yards on the way to a convincing 44-7 New England Women’s and Men’s Conference victory Saturday at Stagg Field.
Quarterback Hunter Belzo rushed for 107 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown, while Mikey Dragone (13 carries, 80 yds., TD) and Joshua Thomas (14 carries, 75 yds., 3 TDs) were also instrumental in the effort.
The Pride (7-2, 6-1 NEWMAC) scored three touchdowns during a span of six minutes in the second quarter to build a 28-0 advantage by halftime.
Bailey Sawyer went 5-for-19 passing with 44 yards, a touchdown and an interception for the Mariners (0-8, 0-6 NEWMAC). Dominic Casale made four catches for 42 yards, including a 5-yard scoring reception.
Justin Pinard and Maxwell Horton spearheaded the MMA defense with 11 and 10 tackles, respectively. Derek Breunig added nine tackles, two for a loss.
Tom Casey (3 TFL) and A.J. Smith paced Springfield with seven tackles each.
