Bowdoin College College Softball 9 vs Husson University 1

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University (12-8) softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to the Bowdoin College (19-10) Polar Bears, 9-1 (5 inn.), 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game remained a scoreless tie until two outs in the top of third when Bowdoin racked the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI single up the middle by Caroline Rice. The Polar Bears continued their two out magic and added on four more runs before the final out of inning thanks to RBI singles by Allison Ritz and Samantha Valdivia, and a two RBI double by Maddie Rouhana.

Bowdoin pushed across two more runs in fourth before Husson scored their lone run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth. Jen Jones led off the inning by smashing a single down the left field line and scored on the next Eagle plate appearance when Morgan Coleman ripped a double to left centerfield.

The Polar Bears tacked on two insurance runs in fifth after Natasha Finger went bridge to left field.

INSIDE THE CIRCLE:

Alyssa Prest took the loss for the Eagles after allowing five unearned runs off seven hits with two punch outs in three innings of work. Arika Brochu pitched the final two innings of the game. The senior pitcher allowed four runs and four hits, while striking out one Polar Bear.

Samantha Roy picked up her seventh win of the season by tossing a complete game seven hitter. Roy allowed one earned run with one walk and four strikeouts.

OFF THE BAT – HUSSON:

Whitney Bess recorded her fourth multi-hit game of the season by going 2-for-3 in game one.
Olivia Smith finished the game with a 1-for-3 day with a double.
Jones went 1-for-2 and scored the Eagles lone run of the game.
Coleman was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
OFF THE BAT – BOWDOIN:

Rice went 2-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBI.
Rouhana was 2-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBI.
Fingar finished the game with a 2-for-3 day with a run, a homerun and two RBI.
