WATERVILLE, Maine — Husson University shot 48.5 percent from 3-point range and hit 19 free throws on the way to an 89-69 non-conference win over Colby College in men’s basketball Tuesday night.
Husson improved to 15-6 overall, while the Mules dropped to 10-12.
Eli Itkin was 4-for-5 from 3-point range on the way to 15 points and six rebounds off the Husson bench. Justin Martin was 4-for-6 from long range, had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Raheem Anderson added 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Mitch Worcester nailed three 3-point shots and was 7-for-8 from the foul line for 16 points.
Alex Dorion made all four of his shots, including three 3-point shots, and made his lone free throw for 12 points. Sean Gilmore added six points, six rebounds, four blocked shots, and three assists. Sam Jefferson and Patrick Stewart both had 11 points, while Joe Connelly and Maximilian Steiner each had nine points.
The Eagles were 16-for-33 from 3-point range and 19-of-27 from the foul line Husson helped its own cause by committing just six turnovers.
The game was tight in the first half and Colby led for the last time at 26-25 after Dorion nailed a three with 3:57 to play. Husson, though, took a 36-33 lead into halftime.
With the Eagles up 40-37, Husson went on a 10-0 scoring run to go up by 13 points. The Mules got as close as six points (51-45) on a 3-point play from Dorion with 11:24 to go. Over the next five minutes, the Eagles went on a 20-9 run to push the margin to 71-54 with 5:34 remaining. Colby could get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
