At Madawaska, Kyle Bouchard recorded a goal and an assist to help the fourth-ranked Shiretowners upended No. 1 Madawaska Owls to gain a berth in the Eastern Maine championship.
Madawaska’s Ian Lee opened up the scoring at the 32-minute mark of the first half, curling a direct kick into the upper right corner to give the Owls the lead.
The teams battled evenly for the next 17 minutes before Houlton’s Bouchard headed a Brandon Ward corner kick toward the Madawaska goal. The ball deflected off a defender back to Bouchard, who followed it up into the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.
The second half was just under way when Bouchard pushed a diagonal pass through the Madawaska defense to the foot of Jimmy Fitzpatrick, who drilled the game-winner for Houlton with 37 minutes to play.
For 13-2-1 Houlton, goalkeeper Kole Buzzeo made 11 stops on 17 Madawaska shots while Tim Deschenes stopped 14 of 22 shots for the 13-3 Owls.
