ORONO, Maine – Cailey Hutchison and Lydia Murray each tallied two goals while Ali Beltz added three assists to help guide the Black Bears (7-3-0, 3-3-0 WHEA) to an 8-0 victory over Holy Cross (0-8-2, 0-5-0) on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena.

Six Black Bears found the back of the net as Maine tallied five first period goals before adding three more in the second. Ida Pressand Maddie Giordano each recorded their first collegiate goals.

Loryn Porter made 10 saves in two periods of action to move to 5-0-0 in net. Jillian Flynn turned away five shots in relief of Porter.

The Black Bears controlled the action throughout the contest, holding a 43-15 edge in shots on net. The Black Bears went 2-for-6 on the power play and were able to kill off all six of Holy Cross’ chances on the extra skater advantage.

The Black Bears exploded for five first period goals to take a commanding lead over visiting Holy Cross after 20-minutes of action.

Anna Zikova began the scoring, cashing in on the power play just 4:24 into the first period. Vendula Pribylova worked the puck around the zone and back to Zikova who rifled a shot through the crowd from the point, giving Maine a 1-0 advantage.

Pribylova got on the board with her fifth of the season just over two minutes later. Pribylova took a pass from Beltz and sprinted into the Holy Cross zone, beating the defenders before cashing in with a backhand past Crusader goaltender, Julia Pelletier.

Ida Press joined the scoring fun with her first collegiate goal midway through the period. With Maine once again skating on the power play, Alyson Matteau controlled the puck along the left boards before sliding a pass to the top of the key where Press gathered. Press stick handled along the blue line before lifting a wrister over Pelletier on the stick side.

The first period scoring barrage continued with Hutchison tallying her second goal of the season. Hutchison came out of the penalty box and skated across the sheet before stealing the puck in front of the Maine bench. The senior forward then took the puck coast-to-coast before beating Pelletier. The goal caused the Crusaders to pull Pelletier, replacing her with Jada Brenon.

Maine closed out the period with their fifth goal of the day, this one coming with just 10-seconds remaining in the first. Lydia Murraynetted her second of the season when she carried the puck from behind the net before stuffing it past Brenon on the near post.

Maine kept the offensive pressure on in the second, adding three more goals in the period beginning with Maddie Giordano’s first of her career. Beltz, who notched her third assist of the game on the play, dug the puck away from the boards behind the net before saucering a pass along to Giordano. Giordano wrapped around the net, stuffing the puck home for Maine’s sixth goal of the day.

Hutchison added her second of the game, 11:15 into the second period. Maggie Blair and Ally Johnson executed a give-and-go along the left boards as Blair received the pass in front, sending a shot on net. The puck was knocked down in front where Hutchison was able to jab it across the goal line.

Murray continued to do the majority of her offensive work from behind the net, once again beating the Crusaders with a wrap around. Daria Tereshkina and Press each assisted on Murray’s second of the night, which came with just 1:13 left in the second.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period as the Black Bears held on for an 8-0 league win.

Maine is back in action on Friday, Nov. 9 when it travels to Providence. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
