AUGUSTA, Maine — Junior guard Ashlee Arnold scored 17 points and Tianna Harriman came off the bench to add 15 as No. 2 Edward Little of Auburn defeated No. 7 Hampden Academy 60-50 in an Eastern Maine Class A girls basketball quarterfinal Friday at the Augusta Civic Center.

EL (16-3) will play No. 6 Skowhegan (12-7) in Wednesday’s semifinals. Skowhegan upset No. 3 Mt. Blue of Farmington 56-55 in overtime in the earlier game of the late afternoon quarterfinal session.

Hampden Academy, the 2011 Eastern A champion, ends its season with a 10-9 record.

EL took a 31-14 halftime lead, but Hampden’s Jordan Maxwell went 5-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc during the third quarter to help rally the Broncos to within two points on two different occasions.

But Edward Little scored the final six points of the period — four by Arnold on a 3-pointer and a free throw — to extend its lead back to 45-37, and Harriman made two 3-pointers and went 4-for-4 from the line in the fourth quarter to help the Red Eddies preserve their lead.

Maxwell finished with 22 points for Hampden, while Ashley Danforth added 18.
