Husson wins third straight ECFC title with win over Gallaudet|
Senior quarterback Cory Brandon completed 15 of 22 passes for 404 yards and five touchdowns, including four to Kyle Gaudet, as the Husson University Eagles captured their third straight Eastern Collegiate Football Conference championship with a 63-2 win over Gallaudet of Washington, D.C. at the Winkin Sports Complex in Bangor.
Husson improved to 7-2 overall, 6-0 in the conference, and will play a non-conference game at Plymouth State (N.H.) next Saturday before moving on the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Gallaudet is 3-4 and 3-2.
Brandon threw touchdown passes of 21, 61, 82 and 57 yards to Gaudet and also tossed a 47-yarder to Ty Bassett.
Miece Loureiro carried the ball 15 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Following Brandon’s 21-yarder to Gaudet to open the scoring, Louriero scored on runs of 90 and one yard to expand the lead to 21-0.
Following a Gallaudet safety, Brandon closed out the half with the 61 and 82-yarders to Gaudet to make it 35-2.
John Chen ran 28 yards with a fumble recovery and Solomon Hassen dashed 71 yards for the other two Husson scores.
Hassen carried the ball seven times for 87 yards as Husson rolled up 701 yards of total offense to Gallaudet’s 43.
Gaudet finished with six catches for 240 yards and Tyler Halls grabbed four for 65 yards.
Elvin Suazo paced the Eagles defense with nine tackles including a sack. He had 2.5 tackles for loss.
Jake Dobos and Frank Curran were each in on six tackles and Tarik Smith had five including three for lost yardage. Dobos had two tackles for loss and Curran had 1.5 including a sack.
Cassmeir Hutchinson carried the ball 10 times for 46 yards for Gallaudet and the defense was led by Louie Akuffo and Everett Polzin, who had eight and seven tackles, respectively.
Akuffo had two pass breakups.
Demontral Lewis had six tackles.
