WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby College senior guard Joe Connelly was 7-for-7 from 3-point range and had a collegiate-high 23 points to help the Mules to a 95-68 victory over Dean College in non-conference men’s basketball Wednesday night.
The Mules (8-9 overall) shot 59.3 percent (16-for-27) from 3-point range and 61 percent (36-for-59) for the game.
Connelly was 8-for-9 from the field and added two assists. Patrick Stewart made his only two 3-point attempts on the way to 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Ethan Schlager was 3-for-4 from long range and had 11 points and three assists, while Ronan Schwarz also had 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting.
The Mules had 33 assists on 36 made field goals, including a game-high seven assists from Sam Jefferson to go along with five points and five rebounds. Sean Gilmore finished with nine points and a game-high three blocked shots, while Dean Weiner had six points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Randolf Thurman led Dean (11-9) with 13 points and five rebounds. John Lambert was 4-for-5 from the field for 10 points and teammate Jaquan James had 10 points, three assists, and three steals. Naquwan Solomon added eight points and three steals for the Bulldogs.
Connelly started the game on fire and never let up in just 19 minutes of playing time. He hit four 3-point shots and Stewart had one to give the Mules a 15-3 lead after just four minutes of play.
The Bulldogs did battle back and only trailed 35-28 after a 3-point shot by James with 7:51 to halftime. Colby, though, went on a 15-1 run over the next 5:18 to go up 50-29. The Mules took a 52-33 lead into halftime and extended the lead to 72-42 in the opening six minutes of the second half.
