WATERVILLE, Maine — Amherst College went 2-for-2 on the power play and Bailey Plaman earned the shutout in a 5-0 victory over Colby College in NESCAC women’s hockey Friday night at Alfond Rink.
The Purple & White are 8-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the league, while Colby drops to 0-12-3 and 0-8-1 in the conference. The two teams will play again Saturday at 3 p.m.
Miriam Eickhoff scored her third of the season when she smacked in a rebound from near the left post. Caitlyn Ryan took the shot from the left point and the rebound went right to Eickhoff for the power play goal at 16:47 of the first period.
Alex Toupal scored her 11th of the year on a transition play. Lynndy Smith got the puck to Toupal between the Amherst blue line and center ice. Toupal did some fine skating, beat a defender, and was able to score the goal at 18:04.
Jocelyn Hunyadi made it 3-0 with just 2:40 left in the second period. On the power play, Amherst won the face-off and Toupal came behind the net. She found Hunyadi near the right face-off dot for the goal.
Jamie McNamara scored her second of the year at 7:47 of the third period, while teammate Katie Savage got her sixth goal with 4:12 to play in the game.
Plaman finished with 21 saves, while Colby’s Hannah Insuik stopped 32 shots
