Author and historian James L. Nelson, whose work on maritime subjects runs from the Vikings to the American Civil War, has embarked on a new series centered on the buccaneers.

He will discuss how those half-wild men, refugees from civilized society, evolved from a being a minor thorn in the side of Spain to playing a major part of the geopolitical world of the 17th century.
