At 5:30 pm on JUNE 1, 2013, the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, will host a public supper. Traditional New England dishes will be served family style, and regardless of childhood memories of waiting for dessert, diners actually select their portion of homemade pie (chocolate, cherry, mince, blueberry, lemon, etc.) as they enter the hall — and sometimes eat it first. Baked beans, sliced ham and coleslaw are the standard fare, but added to that are varieties of casseroles such clam, corn, scalloped potatoes, American chop suey, chicken and rice, macaroni and cheese and hot dog slices in barbecue sauce. The salad selection usually includes three-bean, green leaf, and an array of salads made with jello. Come for great food and fellowship at the low price of $8 per person, discounts for children under 12.
