Roger Merchant will be at Lake Hebron Artisans at 1pm to talk about his photographs and to also discuss what makes a visually compelling photograph distinct from just another snapshot along the road.

Roger began recording his life with a camera given to him by his father after graduating from high school. He has traveled through (peaks and valleys) the incredible landscapes in the eastern and western United States.

Over the past 30 years he has devoted his photographic explorations to interior Maine, from Baskahegan Lake on the east – to the Boundary Mountains on the west, from Bangor north to the Allagash.

Cultural excursions into the Gaspe, Nova Scotia, Czech Republic, Ecuador plus expeditions into Wyoming’s Wind River Range and Utah’s Escalante Region have filled his lens. He was initally oriented to nature and landscapes, his interests have expanded into rural life, communities, wilderness railroads, trees and forest conservation, old growth forests, wildlife, found natural art; ice – stone – wood, all close at hand.

Stop by Lake Hebron Artisans (arts co operative) on Maine Street in Monson on Saturday. july 20, 2013 to participate in our Fairy Open House

and to view Roger’s photos plus meet him.
