BAR HARBOR, ME—College of the Atlantic’s organic Beech Hill Farm is offering its third annual May Day Celebration, with a maypole dance, farm tours, and potluck picnic lunch from noon to 3 p.m. on the event’s rain date, Saturday, May 18.

Join COA students and members of the Big Moose Contra Dance Band for a traditional maypole dance, complete with colorful ribbons and good humor. Bring your own food for a farm potluck, and take a tour of the farm’s greenhouses, orchards, and fields, as well as the solar, wind, and other energy-efficient installations.

This informal celebration of spring and the farm is free and open to all ages. See what’s happening at the farm, learn a bit about the farm’s Share the Harvest program—making Beech Hill Farm goods available to individuals of all incomes through local food pantries, and head to the COA campus that night for Fandango, a multi-talented fundraiser for Share the Harvest at Gates Community Center. Community members are also welcome to join a town-to-farm bike ride, beginning in downtown Bar Harbor.

Beech Hill Farm is located at 171 Beech Hill Road in the town of Mt. Desert. For more information about the farm’s May Day Celebration on Saturday, May 18 from noon to 3 p.m., contact farm manager Tess Fowler at 244-5204, COA at 288-5015, or write beechhillfarm@coa.edu.
