The Carrabassett Region New England Mount Bike Association (NEMBA) is teaming up with Maine Huts & Trails to present a NEMBA TrailFest in Carrabassett Valley for June 8th and 9th, 2013. This TrailFest will help create new single track mountain biking trails, which, when combined with existing trails at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center in Carrabassett Valley will make the Western mountains of Maine a must-do for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities.
“This is a significant undertaking for Maine Huts & Trails and the first major mountain bike specific trail project that we have undertaken, and we are thrilled to be working with Carrabassett Region NEMBA as they host their first-ever NEMBA TrailFest,” said Charlie Woodworth, Executive Director, Maine Huts & Trails. “With these new tracks, a stay our huts, more specifically Poplar and Stratton Brook will be an ideal base for biking for all ages and abilities.”
Volunteers at this event will be breaking ground on a new single-track trail that will connect the town’s Narrow Gauge rail trail and the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center to the Stratton Brook Hut, Maine Huts & Trails’ newest hut. Hardy Avery of Sustainable Trail Works will be designing and pin flagging the trail in May.
Volunteers who participate in the trail work will receive free lodging at Stratton Brook Hut on Friday and Saturday nights, June 7th and 8th. Meals at Stratton Brook, starting with dinner on Friday evening through lunch on Sunday will also be included and free of cost to volunteers. Beverages and beer will also be provided by Geary’s Brewing Company.
