Prof. Steve Norton will offer a Powerpoint presentation on “Geology of the Great Pond Mountain Wildlands, from the beginning to now,” 6:30 pm at Craig Brook Nat’l Fish Hatchery. The Wildlands is a place where one can easily see evidence of geology and glaciation. Prof. Norton will discuss the bedrock geology of the Wildlands and the glacial history and deposits that control our modern environment. Steve Norton is Professor Emeritus of Earth and Climate Sciences at the University of Maine, having retired in 2008. He continues his research in environmental geochemistry (particularly on determinants of water quality) and in fall 2012 taught a graduate course in Geochemistry. Steve and wife Natalie live in Bucksport and frequent the Wildlands on foot and skis, whenever they have spare time. Call (207)469-6929 for more info.
