Exploring the Night Sky – Evening Enrichment at Bapst

Students will be introduced to the science of astronomy and the wonders of the night sky. Special emphasis will be placed upon what one can actually see using the naked eye, binoculars, and telescopes. Topics will include the celestial sphere , solar system objects, the Milky Way, the lives of stars, galaxies, and cosmology, etc. Participants will receive star charts, a star atlas, and other aids to astronomical observing.

INSTRUCTOR: Scott Burgess – Scott has his M.S. in Physics and has taught astronomy at both John Bapst and the University. An avid stargazer, Scott is a member of the Astronomical League, the American Association of Variable Star Observers, the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers, and the Penobscot Valley Star Gazers.

COST: $100 + $15 for materials = $115

MEETS: 8-week session – Oct 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov 4, 11, 18

Payment Deadline: Sept 25 – You will be notified via email by Sept 28 if the class will run (most classes will be run with 8 or more participants). ANYONE can join us… classes are being offered for the entire Bangor area.
