An annual tradition not to be missed! Join Maine Historical Society to celebrate the Fourth of July with a public reading, by former Maine State Rep. Herb Adams, of the Declaration of Independence in front of the Longfellow House at 489 Congress Street. This year’s event also includes a reading of the Gettysburg Address, by Portland Mayor Michael Brennan, to mark the mid-point of the Civil War Sesquicentennial. This event kicks off July 4 activities around Portland, which culminates in a concert by Don Maclean and fireworks off the Eastern Promenade.
