‘The Nile Project’ at Merrill Auditorium

PORTLAND, Maine — The Nile Project will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

The Nile Project, led by Ethiopian-American singer Meklit Hadero, features Ethiopian masenko and saxophone; Egyptian ney, oud, violin, simsimiya and Tanbura; Ugandan adungu; bass guitar; and vocalists singing in multiple languages.

A pre-performance lecture by the group’s executive director Mina Girgis will be held at 6 p.m. April 12, in Merrill Auditorium Rehearsal Hall.

A school-time performance will be offered to school groups and home schoolers at 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, at Merrill Auditorium.
