Dr. Nancy Childress, founder of the Peers Sharing Success organization, will recognize successful school districts in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont in an annual conference on Aug. 14 and 15, at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, Vt.
Nancy is fondly known as “Sally” in the 1960’s edition of the Sally, Dick and Jane reading primers. Her late father, Robert Childress, was the illustrator of the series and Nancy was the model for “Sally.” She later graduated with a teaching degree, taught 14 years, became a lawyer, and worked for the New Hampshire Department of Education.
In 2012, Nancy created the Peers Sharing Success organization to recognize successful school districts in the tri-state area of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont.
The successful districts were chosen because they have made advances in their overall student academic achievement on the NECAP test over the last couple of years, and will present in break-out sessions and provide handouts and online support for their strategies. In return, they will receive an incentive check.
Other proceeds from the conference will go into scholarships for high school and undergrads in the tri-state area who are pursuing a career in Education.
Keynote speakers will be Vermont Secretary of EducationArmando Vilaseca, and Barbara Moody, president of Learning Forward New England and director of Teacher Education at Husson University in Bangor.
