Pittsfield Public Library presents the 2013 Persis Smith Community Reads program in October

Pittsfield Public Library presents the 2013 Persis Smith Community Reads program in October. The featured book is “All Standing: The Remarkable Story of the Jeanie Johnston, The Legendary Irish Famine Ship” by Kathryn Miles. Miles, a resident of Belfast, Maine, will set the stage (introduce the topic) with a talk about the Irish potato famine on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:00. This will be followed with a talk about Michael Connolly about the Irish immigrants in Maine and a potluck supper on Thursday, October 3 at 4:00. Connolly, of Portland, Maine, has done extensive research on Irish immigrants and edited “They Change Their Sky: The Irish in Maine”. The Community Reads program will conclude book with a discussion led by Kathryn Miles on Thursday, October 10 at 4:00. All sessions will take place in the Warren Community Room at the Pittsfield Public Library. For more information or to obtain a copy of the book, please visit the library or call 487-5880.
