On Thursday, July 18, Downtown Pittsfield will become much more colorful with contestants painting storefront windows. The Annual Window Painting Contest will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in Downtown Pittsfield and is open to children of all ages. Contestants must register at the Pittsfield Public Library. Prizes will be awarded by: Age Category; Use of Theme; Use of Egg; Neatness and Originality. The Window Painting Contest is put on by the Maine Central Institute (MCI) Key Club. Come have fun painting. Remember the Egg Festival Theme this year is The SP”EGG”TACULAR CIRCUS.

Were you able to drop by the Pittsfield Public Library to check out the Art Show? You will want to see all of the great paintings from participating artists along with some sculpture and stained glass this year. Remember…the Pittsfield Public Library is now air-conditioned as part of the completed Library Expansion and Renovation project. The Library is open from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.

The Crafters and Artists will be in full force at the Marketplace Tent in Manson Park from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The Marketplace is a part of the Central Maine Egg Festival that brings the finest artists and crafters from all over Maine and New England to beautiful Manson Park. Within the Marketplace area people can view and purchase from New England’s finest display of arts and crafts. All arts and crafts are held to a strict standard of handmade, homemade products with the craftspeople themselves behind the table ready and willing to let people know how each item is created. Please drop by to see each and every vendor’s display and perhaps find some great items to buy and treasure for many years to come. Items for sale will include wooden shadows, whirligigs, standing welcome creatures, pillow puppies, sewing/crocheted crafts, hand painted wooden crafts, walking sticks, knit items, cross stich, towel sets, handcrafted country/primitive wooden items, leather & wood products, knit & sewn items, bibs, aprons, towels, pot holders, photography, shell crafts, handcrafted jewelry, photos, airbrushed T-shirts, mailboxes, License Plates, hats, purses, aprons, marshmallow shooters, handmade pens, pencils, rolling pins, wands, bookmarks, pet toys, dolls & accessories, hand built pottery & hand designed jewelry plus much more!

One of the niftiest events of the week is the Kiwanis Kiddie Parade. Please bring your children to the Municipal Parking Lot by 6:00 pm to line up for this fun event. With our theme of The SP”EGG”TACULAR CIRCUS, it should be really interesting to see the costumes, bikes and/or carts. The Kiddie Parade will be led by the Police Department down Somerset Avenue to Main Street leading into Manson Park. Children remember being in the Kiddie Parade all of their lives marching down Main Street waving to their family and friends lining Main Street to celebrate the opening of the Kiwanis Karnival. Make sure your children can experience this special event!

Then there is the moment all children are waiting for (and some adults too) – the opening of the Kiwanis Karnival rides and games at 6:30 pm in Manson Park. Thursday and Friday are bracelet night. Coupons are available at stores and the Town Office to pick up to present at the Midway Ticket Box at Manson Park for a wristband for unlimited rides that night (except bumper cars) for $17.00 per person.

There will be games, entertainment plus much more Thursday evening at Manson Park on the opening night of the Kiwanis Karnival and the Marketplace.
