Innovative makeover campaign brings awareness to domestic violence while giving survivors a day of glam and empowerment

PORTLAND, Maine — One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. In a unique move that draws attention to the courageous survivors, Use Me! Products has created a makeover campaign that  is designed to bring awareness to domestic violence, while celebrating the survivors who are an inspiration to women worldwide.

The campaign is the brainchild of Alanna York, founder of the eco-conscious Use Me! Product brand and owner of Head Games Salon for Hair & Body in Portland. In addition to York’s hair salon, other salons that carry Use Me! Products will be hosting makeovers for domestic violence survivors, which include an exciting new hairstyle, makeup application, and fashion.

On Tuesday, April 30, the glam squad arrived at Bei Capelli Salon in Scarborough to begin the campaign.

Makeover participant, Caroline, hadn’t had a haircut in years and was excited about the makeover ahead.

Hairstylist, Jaelynn Fortin, cut about 8-10 inches from her hair so the transformation was drastic but it gave her a healthy head of hair. Jaelynn also colored her hair a shade of red with some highlights to add

dimension. Her make-up was kept natural and the transformation turned out amazing.

The innovative makeover campaign was a collaborative effort between Use Me! Products, Bei Capelli, and

Family Crisis Services in Maine. Use Me! Products would like to continue helping out by raising funds this

week toward the cause. Ten percent of their online retail sales will be awarded to the Family Crisis Services.

The second salon to participate was Head Games Salon for Hair & Body, in Portland, who put their creative team to work on a stunning new look for their participant. Hairstylist and Regional Educator for Use Me! Products, Sally Mosen, began the makeover with Use Me’s, Cleanser and Moisturizer for Fine Hair, and added some thickening, AntiGravity Volume Myst, along with some smoothing Get It Straight Gelee for the blowout.

Both women were very happy with their makeovers and appreciated that the salons took the time to honor

them. Wardrobe was provided by: Winlar, Robyn Rhodes Jewelry, and Dezario Shoes.

The makeover events will continue to enhance the beauty of many survivors, one city at a time. The goal is to bring awareness and inspiration to others to do their part in their own communities.
