Ellie Libby will lead a presentation on regional school garden programs and their impact on the local food movement at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, April 30 at 12:00 noon.
In addition to being the perfect setting for learning about growing, harvesting, and cooking local food, school gardens are a fun, interactive way to promote healthy eating habits and greater scientific concepts. Libby’s colorful slideshow will highlight efforts to bring children to these outdoor classrooms in school districts in the Midcoast region and will show how the gardens influence their school food programs and surrounding communities.
Libby is an Extension Educator with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. Her work is focused on 4-H Youth Development, School Gardening and Farm to School programming on local, regional and national levels. She is also a host site supervisor for FoodCorps in Maine and a board member of numerous school garden education groups across the state.
