My name is Kassidy Giggey and I am proud to announce the Giggey Girl Gowns is open for its third year!
If you have never heard of Giggey Girl Gowns, let me introduce our non-profit organization. In February of 2011, I began searching for a prom dress. My family had been hit hard by the economy, and things were getting tough. The prices of prom dresses was outrageous, and there was no way that I was going to be able to afford a brand new dress. After doing some careful research, it looked as if this was a universal problem. The average amount of money spent on prom is around $870.00 a person. An average of $300.00 is spent on the dress alone. With that idea in my head, I started a project that would offer free formal wear to all of those who need it. Prom should be a day when every girl gets to feel beautiful, no matter what financial circumstances she faces. Also, women of all ages deserve to be able to get dressed up for any formal occasions! And the same goes for guys! In 2012, we started catering to men as well! We believe that everyone deserves to feel special on the night of their formal event. We now carry dresses, shoes, jewelry, suits and sports coats, ties, and more, all of which are given away for free, and all donated to us by the very generous people in our community.
This year Giggey Girl Gowns is very excited to be open for donations and for formal wear pick up every Sunday from 1 to 3pm at the Community of Christ Church, 128 Pierce Rd. Brewer, through June 2nd! We are also open by appointment all year round! We would love for everyone to come in and donate formal wear, come check out or selection, come volunteer, or just check us out! We hope to create a wonderful formal wear season for all!
