Fort Kent to welcome Vietnam Veterans Nov 6

FORT KENT, Maine — It may be 40 years late, but the public is invited to attend a Vietnam Veterans Appreciation event to join the First Lady of Maine, Mrs. Ann LePage, LTC Peter Ogden and the Maine State Select Honor Guard in showing these heroes the appreciation they should have received long ago, starting with a social hour at 5 p.m. on Nov. 6, at Fort Kent Knights of Columbus Hall. The Fort Kent Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the National Honor Society will serve ribeye steak dinners after the honors ceremony, which begin at 6 p.m.. The Maine State Select Honor Guard will fire 21 rounds from the Maine State Ceremonial Howitzer followed by Live Taps to honor the 58,000-plus Americans who never returned from Vietnam. Tickets are $10 per person and will be available at the door or may be purchased in advance at Alberts Jewelry in Fort Kent. The event is open to the Public.
