CAMDEN — The MaineMadeMusic series and Jazz in June will present a Midcoast jazz-filled evening at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 at the Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St. 40 Paper will offer a cash bar before the show and during intermission.
Nationally acclaimed saxophonist, pianist, arranger and composer Wayne DeLano will headline with his jazz quartet. DeLano has performed with jazz greats Phil Woods, Michael Brecker, Chaka Khan, Freddie Hubbard, James Moody, Bobby Shew and Maynard Fergusson. DeLano (sax, piano), David Clarke (guitar), Duane Edwards (bass) and Michael Heatley (drums) will perform both traditional bebop and modern jazz from some favorite albums, including music by DeLano, Don Grolnick, Rick Margitza, Kenny Garrett, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon and more.
Composer and keyboardist Tom Luther will open the show with a short set on piano. The classically trained Luther balances traditional and extended approaches in his work. He has performed in venues from Portland to Bangor; and presented his computer-based work at a computer art conference at Mass MOCA last year. Luther teaches piano, composition and digital music at Midcoast Music Academy in Rockland.
