RICHMOND — The Maine Rural Water Association will hold the “Practical Legal Guide for Hiring Employees” workshop 9 a.m- 12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 254 Alexander Reed Road.
MRWA members and non-members are invited to attend. The cost is $65 for members and $115 for non-members per attendee.
The workshop will provide strategies and insight on improving the hiring process.
It will be led by Peter Lowe, a partner at the law firm Brann & Isaacson in Lewiston. Peter provides advice and counsel to clients on labor and employment law, including some of Maine’s largest employers. He also edits the Maine Employment Law Letter and has been recognized since 2013 as a Best Lawyer for representing management in employment law.
This workshop will address: Job applications & postings; Evaluating applications; Legal rights of candidates; Interviews – do’s & don’ts; Hiring and social media; Reference checks; Pre-hire physicals; Drug testing, & dealing with marijuana; Salary & wage history; Job offers; Rejecting an applicant; Legal risks and pitfalls; Pre-hire orientation, on-boarding and training; Probationary periods.
