PORTLAND — The Portland Chamber Music Festival will present “Bach Along the Silk Road” with violinist John Gandelsman, 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at 71 Cove St.
“Bach Along the Silk Road” is a musical meditation on the ancient trade route. This program pairs arguably the lightest and darkest works Bach ever wrote for a string instrument, with three brand new works written for Johnny in 2019.
The Grammy award-winning violinist and producer—founder of the genre-defying string quartet Brooklyn Rider and member of the Silkroad Ensemble—adds rich layers to the music of Bach and beyond, exploring the connections and transcendent beauty that can be found (rather than lost) in translation.
