ELLSWORTH — Artist Barbara Shelley will hold a July art show until Aug. 2 in the Riverview Room at the Ellsworth Public Library, 20 State St. The show is available for viewing during the library’s business hours when the Riverview Room is not occupied. Visitors are encouraged to check the library’s calendar online or contact the library before stopping by to ensure that the room is available.
The public is invited to attend an artist reception 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the library. Light refreshments will be served.
“Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” said Shelley.
After graduating from art school at the University of Michigan, Barbara began working as a commercial artist in New York City as a packaging designer for Clairol and later an art director for Isotoner gloves. She continued to paint and draw, and for about 10 years she made and taught pottery. In 2011, she began to paint in oils, with a brief period studying botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Garden. She continues learning at the Art Student’s League in NYC, where she paints from live models. Her paintings are primarily of Maine and the beautiful Acadia/Downeast area.
