ELLSWORTH — The second annual Down East Family YMCA Ice Fishing Derby, hosted by Down East Family YMCA and Camp Discovery on Webb Pond, will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10. All legal bodies of water are eligible. Weigh-ins 3-6 p.m. each day, food, music, drawings, 50/50 drawing and more will be held in the parking lot in front of Willey’s Sports Center, under their sponsored heated tent.
There will be free hot dogs and chili sponsored by Machias Savings Bank, Haddock Chowder sponsored by Chipper’s Restaurant, and more goodies by The Y on Saturday. DragonFire Pizza will create a special derby pizza to sell both days. A dollar for each Special Derby Pizza sold will be donated to Camp Discovery.
Categories and Prizes: first place $250, second place $100 for largest lake trout and largest salmon (minimum of 18 inches); first place $150 and second place $75 for largest brook trout, pickerel and bass.
Management Prize for smallest accumulated combined weight of two lake trout. No minimum length on togue, two togue bag limit under 23 inches or one togue can be over 33 inches. No kill on togue between 23 and 33 inches.
Beech Hill Pond: Youth prize for age 12-17 of $200 Savings Bond from Machias Savings Bank; adult prize of cash or ice auger.
