OTIS — The Down East Family YMCA will hold its first ice fishing derby Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10 and 11, with weigh-ins 3-6 p.m. both days at Dunn’s Aviation Hangar, Beech Hill Pond, West Shore Road. Participants can fish any Hancock County pond or lake legally open to fishing.More than$10,000 in prizes, including a Honda Rancher 4×4. Ticket purchase enters the participant into prize drawings. Door prizes will be drawn every 15 minutes during weigh-ins. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at 14 locations in Hancock County (visit www.defymca.org for full list).
Proceeds from the derby will benefit outdoor educational programming at Camp Discovery on Webb Pond. Outdoor programming is essential for youth development, and we believe it is our duty to help meet the needs of the children in Hancock County. Our camp currently offers a summer day camp program allowing kids to engage in swimming, paddle boarding, target shooting with BB guns, archery, and hiking. It is our hope to expand the programming to host other events, spreading the impact of our facility.
