BANGOR, Maine — The League of Women Voters of Maine will sponsor a nonpartisan voter registration table Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23 and 25, at the American Folk Festival on the Bangor waterfront, according to Barbara McDade, league president.
The table will be at Gomez Park on Broad St., just outside the entrance to the festival. It will operate 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Any U.S. citizen with an established residence in Maine can register to vote by completing a registration card and showing a valid driver’s license or Maine ID card with a current address, or other photo ID and evidence of address. The cards are sent to the Secretary of State who notifies the clerk in the town where the new voter lives.
The event is strictly nonpartisan. Voters may register in any of the political parties recognized in Maine or without party designation. In Maine, voters may register on election day, but advance registration shortens their time at the polls and permits them to vote absentee in advance of the election. People from any area of Maine may register.
