Karen Smith

Guest Speaker Karen Smith, was an American Baptist International Ministries Missionary in Thailand for 14 years. Karen served as Program Director of the New Life Center Foundation in northern Thailand, working with young women who are victims of human trafficking, forced labor or sexual abuse. The “NLCF” works exclusively with young ethnic minority women throughout the Mekong sub-region. Since its inception in 1987, the NLCF has partnered with the Royal Thai Government and international NGOs to provide legal, psychological, and repatriation assistance. NLCF provides education (promoting literacy and life-skills from elementary to university levels), vocational training (providing specialized training which results in viable employment) and therapeutic activities (art therapy, music, dance, cooking, martial arts, individual counseling). Earlier in the day, a workshop by Rev, Fela Barrueta will occur at 3:00 and a pot luck dinner at 5:00. Before Karen Smith’s presentation, there will be a mini-concert by the Christian Rock Band “The Founded Trio” at 6:00, with Karen speaking at 6:45.
