ROCKLAND — Trekkers is looking for volunteers. Trekkers is a non-profit, outdoor-based, six-year mentoring program that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. This year, Trekkers will serve more than 240 students from the communities of Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, St. George and Thomaston.
The community is invited to attend a Fall Volunteer Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Steel House South building, 639 Main Street. All are welcome to help kick-off our 25th year. Come meet Trekkers staff, connect with other volunteers and learn how you can get engaged. Light refreshments will be provided. There will be a brief presentation on Trekkers and information about our upcoming needs at 6 p.m.
Trekkers volunteer opportunities include:
Expedition Mentors: Help supervise students and facilitate positive team dynamics on overnight trips by being a positive role model and building relationships with all participating students.
One to One Mentors: Connect and build a relationship with a student by spending time together in the community.
Tutors: Tutor a student based on your schedule and academic strengths.
Fundraising & Event Support: Help promote events, setup, provide hands on support during an event, or complete post-event breakdown and cleanup. Consider becoming a committee member.
Administrative Support: Help with office support such as: data entry, putting together brochures and newsletters, stuffing envelopes for mailings, website redesign or organizing files.
CDL Licensed Driver: Become a bus driver for our expedition trips.
Interested attendees can reach out to Trekkers’ Volunteer and Administrative Coordinator, Cathy Herr, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
