SCARBOROUGH – Town & Country Federal Credit Union is preparing to award a total of $25,000 to non-profits serving Cumberland and York Counties as part of its Better Neighbor Fund. Nominations for a non-profit to receive a grant opened Sept. 3 and will continue through Sept. 25.

Since 2010, Town & Country has granted over $225,000 to support nearly 75 local charitable programs through the Better Neighbor Fund. The grants will be determined through an online vote on Facebook.

“Maine is a state rich in the tradition of neighbors helping neighbors, and we created the Better Neighbor Fund as a way to highlight the importance of giving back to our community and keeping that spirit alive. As a financial cooperative, we understand the importance of helping others, whether it’s providing financial services or making a difference in the community,” said David Libby, president and CEO of Town & Country Federal Credit Union.

The Better Neighbor Fund allows some of the many terrific non-profits that serve Cumberland and York counties with an opportunity to not only highlight their organization but to generate support through social media. From helping an organization purchase beds for individuals who were previously homeless to providing opportunities for families to attend a week at Camp Sunshine, we have been able to help fund a variety of projects and initiatives in Cumberland York counties and look forward to doing so again this year.”

The first 25 applicants that best meet the qualification criteria will be selected as nominees and advance to the public voting phase, which will take place on Town & Country’s Facebook page during the month of October. The organizations that get the most online votes will be the winning recipients of the eight grants.

For complete details on the simple nomination process or to submit a nomination of a non-profit, visit tcfcu.com and complete the online application.

Grant recipients will be announced Nov. 7 at the Town & Country Center in Scarborough.
