BANGOR — Ten Bucks Theatre Company will present “The Elephant Man” by Bernard Pomerance at 7 p.m. March 28-30 and April 4-6 and 2 p.m. March 31 and April 7 at the Bangor Mall, Stillwater Avenue. Directed by Julie Arnold Lisnet.

Tickets are available online for $10 through Brown Paper Tickets (https://elephantmantbt.bpt.me). Tickets are also available at the door if not sold out online. Doors open a half hour before the show starts.

“The Elephant Man” is based on the life of John Merrick (Alan Estes), who lived in London during the later part of the 19th Century. A horribly deformed young man, who has been a freak attraction in traveling side shows, is found abandoned and helpless and is admitted for observation in Whitechapel, a prestigious London hospital.

Under the care of a famous young doctor, Frederick Treves (Tyler Costigan) who educates him and introduces him to London society, Merrick changes from a sensational object of pity to the urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati. But his belief that he can become a man like any other is a dream never realized.
