Starting September 8 at the Houlton Higher Education Center, Women, Work, and Community will offer a free twelve-week course in business planning.

If you are a new entrepreneur or business owner in the start-up stage, New Ventures will help you create a written business plan from start to finish with feedback from facilitators and fellow entrepreneurs. Topics include your customer, your competition, marketing, financial recordkeeping, cash flow projections, taxes, legal aspects, financing, and more.

Applications are due by Friday, August 29. Individual interviews will be scheduled following the class orientation from 9:30-11:30 AM on Monday, September 8. The New Ventures class will meet on Mondays from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM from September 15 through December 15 at the Houlton Higher Education Center.

Erica Quin-Easter, trainer for the New Ventures course, says, “Creating a written business plan is the key to building a sustainable business. This class will help you research and write your business plan, explore financing options, gain confidence in promoting yourself, and grow your business with the tools you need to succeed.”

There is no fee for the class. The 60-hour course also qualifies for 3 Pass/Fail credits from the University of Maine at Augusta upon approval of your completed business plan and payment of a small processing fee.

Class size is limited to 15, and an application and interview are required. Anyone with a business idea is welcome to apply. WWC abides by UMA non-discrimination policy.
