SummerKeys welcomes Sue Richards, Celtic harp; Carolyn Surrick, viola da gama; Andrea Mauer, flute and Richard McIntyre, piano to Lubec on August 20.
The viol or viola da gamba (legs) first appeared in 15th century Spain. There are frets partially down the finger board, and it’s strung with gut strings. The bow is held in an underhand grip. The Celtic harp is a triangular harp common to Brittany, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The earliest depiction of the harp is from 1100 AD.
Works of Turlough, O’Caralan and other traditional Irish and Celtic music will be performed. Also included in the program is a Sonatina for Flute and Piano by Eldin Burton which is his best known work. Featured also will be Fantaisie Brillante for Flute and Piano by Francois Borne from the opera Carmen, by G. Bizet
Hosted by: West Quoddy Head Light Keeper’s Association
