LEWISTON—With many local families facing financial burdens, Community Clinical Services Pediatrics in Lewiston, an affiliate of St. Mary’s Health System, is teaming up with community members to help make the daunting challenge a little easier for parents in need.
Through Tuesday, Aug. 20, Community Clinical Services Pediatrics is collecting school essentials for children in need and preparing backpacks for them as they get ready to head back to their classrooms.
“We distribute the backpacks to our pediatric patients and if we have any left over, we will distribute them to a local school serving the underserved of Lewiston,” said Elizabeth Keene, the vice president of mission integration for St. Mary’s.
If you are able, all are encouraged to donate items for the backpacks by dropping them off at 330 Sabattus St., Suite B (next to Women’s Health), in Lewiston.
The items being collected are: pencils, erasers, pens, markers, crayons, pencil cases, folders, binders, notebooks, highlighters, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, tissues, hand sanitizer, water bottles and backpacks. Individual items or fully packed backpacks will gladly be accepted.
“Every child deserves a chance to learn and be successful,” said Jason Gould, director of marketing for St. Mary’s. “Our hope is that we can help make that a little easier for families in need this school year.”
Community Clinical Services Pediatrics offers family-centered, compassionate primary care for all children, including interpreters provided at no cost. The practice welcomes families that have lived in the Lewiston/Auburn area for generations and newly-arrived families from all over the world. Children not covered by health insurance will still receive care.
