Opening September 12, and running through September 28, The Kymara Gallery at Geno’s Rock Club, presents Sex At The Disco…Underground Club Scene, 1970-1980″ – photography by Veretta Cobler, NYC-based fashion fine art photographer and author. Images from Cobler’s book, New York Underground 1970-1980, along with several never before seen vintage prints depicting the orgasmic culture, extravagant fashion and uninhibited party scenes of New York City’s infamous Disco era, will be on display during this exhibition. Veretta expertly captures the energy, drama and driving dance floor sexuality that dominated a brief period in the city’s club history. During this period, themed parties such as circus, Hollywood, dance theatre, techno and diva drama became popularized. Through photography, Cobler documented this club scene that blossomed during this pre-AIDS peak of the Disco era, happening alongside the rise of
the Women’s Liberation and Gay Rights Movements. Extravagant interiors, Wild Cabaret fashion, romantic characters and the drama of infamous clubs such as Plato’s Retreat, Studio 54, Circus, Xenon and the Paradise Garage, have been immortalized by the photographer.
